This is a contemporary floor lamp that is well made and easy to assemble. As a task lamp, it lights a specific area well but does not (and is not meant to) light the whole room. The switch consists of a touch sensitive slider along the stem: slide up and you get light, slide down and you dim or turn off the lamp. It suited our project perfectly.. Diane.
