Very solid piece of furniture! The box was a little beat up, but the furniture was so securely packed that there was no chance it would be damaged (the packaging itself probably weighed 20 lbs!). I ordered it at 11:30pm on Wednesday and it was delivered by midday that Friday--awesome! My husband assembled it by himself one evening. He just needed my help standing it upright at the end. The shelf is nice, but the weight capacity is listed as 40 lbs. However, I’ve noticed the shelves “bowing” with less than 40lbs worth of books on them (I even took the books off to weigh them to confirm). Finished product looks good at first glance, but upon further inspection you can tell the materials and build quality aren't that great. The soldering isn't done very well and some of the pieces don't line up perfectly. The same joints also aren't very strong as one of the flat pieces broke off the frame simply from it's own weight while in the processing of assembling (the instructions tell you to lay it flat on the ground like my picture). I bought this in the acorn finish. It arrived quickly and was very securely packaged. I was able to put it together myself, although I'm an "old pro" at furniture assembly and you might need two people. The wood looks kind of "pieced together" in places and I wish the screws on the sides had covers for a more finished appearance. However, that being said, I am still very pleased. I love the look of these bookcases, and they are sturdy and well made. I purchased two of them to put side by side which looks really nice. Assembling them was very straight-forward, but does take some time and muscle. I was able to do it myself in about 3 hours for the two of them, but I am experienced in this sort of thing, so factor that in. All the pieces of the first bookcase fit together perfectly. My review is for 4 stars because the second bookcase had one bolt hole that didn't line up quite right. I loosened all the other bolts and assembled them carefully in another order and got it to fit, but damaged a little of the veneer on one shelves in the process, luckily in a place where it's not noticeable. The veneer is quite thin so I wouldn't want to bash these around too much. I would recommend when assembling these to put in all the bolts loosely first and bring the bookcase vertical, then tighten everything up as the last step. The package arrived undamaged due to the EXTENSIVE amount of styrofoam in the box. My second project after putting these together was to spend another couple of hours breaking and bagging up all the styrofoam so I can through it away. We searched online and in stores for a long time before landing on the Dakota bookcase, and I'm glad we took our time. We bought two. They're well-built and higher quality than I expected. The wood grain is unusual, but harmonious and not distracting. The legs give them a kind of finished appearance that's perfect in our 1960's apartment. They come assembled - you only have to add the feet - and with the "white glove" service, the guys delivered, set them up and took away all the packing in a jiffy. The only thing I would add is a leveling knob at the bottom of the legs. Our 1960s apartment doesn't have very level floors and it took some futzing with pads to get them even..
