Christophe Mathieu Germany (1961 - )

Born in Hamburg in 1961, he graduated in Interior Design from the School of Applied Art and Artistic Trades (la Llotja), in Barcelona, having been on placement in Hamburg collaborating with Nitz, Prash and Sigl Architects. Subsequently, he lived for three years in Milan, where he collaborated with: the architect Marco Zanuso Jr. in the development of products for companies such as De Padova, Menphis and Driade; the architects Roberto Menghi y Giulio Crespi; the industrial designer Sergio Coppola and the architect Antonio Zanuso in the prize-winning project for the Piazza della Republica. His time in Milan had a profound effect on him. In 1989, he decided to move to Barcelona where he collaborated with Alfredo Arribas, Eduard Samsó and Javier Mariscal. Companies with which he has worked are: Bosa, Artelano, Disform, Metalarte, Bover, Chupa-Chups, Smint, Nike, Bticino, Comas & Partners y Marset.

Conceived as a modular system for producing lengthways strips of light, it is designed to be included in any surroundings using decorative resources. The frontal profile made of transparent polycarbonate makes it possible to slot in an exchangeable film made of translucent materials (such as pleated raw cotton, white linen or tobacco-colored fabric) or opaque black film, which generates indirect light. Warm and understated, it explores new possibilities for interior design. Presented in four different lengths, it can be installed as isolated modules, or continuous strips can be created to illuminate corridors, headboards for beds, etc. Its multi-faceted design also allows it to be used as a base for illuminated signs, and includes an IP44 model which is ideal for bathrooms.
