Jac Jacobsen Norway (1901 - 1996)Starting in 1921, Jacobsen worked in the textile industry. In 1934 he founded Luxo ASA, former Jac. Jacobsen A / S, a Norwegian industrial group. It was originally a marketing company for textile machinery. In 1937, he developed the Luxo-L1, abalanced-arm lamp. Today, the lamp is part of various exhibitions in museums around the world, as the lamp is being seen as an example for classic lamp design. The L1 construction principle is based on the Anglepoise lamp, developed by George Carwardine in 1933. Jac Jacobsen lived to be 95 years old and was active in the company until his last days.
Newly redesigned to be more energy-efficient after 70 years. L-1 is the world's first architect lamp. Unique design, ingenious lighting properties and a flexible spring-balanced arm have earned L-1 a place among the world's all-time classics.| Item: | Dimensions: | Weight: |

still a classic I was a little concerned that the redesign of the supposedly original "architect's lamp" for CFL bulbs (no more heat shield in the shade) would be taken as an opportunity to incorporate some corner-cutting. Nope, nope, nope, this lamp is tops. It stays where you place it and has a very sturdy feel. I wish I had gotten it when I heard about it two decades ago and I'm trying to think of ways to incorporate more of them into my (small) apartment. My sole complaint is that it comes with a cheapo bulb, but that is easily replaced with a decent name-brand one. |

Love it! Well-made, clean-looking, clamps sturdily to table. Light from the bulb is a little feeble, but that's not the lamp's fault. |
