Verner Panton Denmark (1926 - 2004)

Born on February 13, 1926 in Denmark, Verner Panton is known as one of the most remarkable innovative talents of 20th century design and architecture. While growing up, he longed to become an artist, but showed little talent for painting and drawing. Despite this, he won a place at the technical college in Odense. After completing his studies on Odense, Panton moved to Copenhagen in 1947 to enroll as an architecture student. Finally in 1955, Panton started his own design office. Besides being a great designer of carpets, Panton also designs furniture, lamps, fabrics, curtains, room and space designs, watches and accessories. "The main purpose of my work is to provoke the people to use their own imagination" - Verner Panton .

The Panthella Table Lamp was created in 1971 and is one of the more popular Verner Panton designs. This simple yet sophisticated table lamp provides both general and diffused illumination. The slender shaft and hemispheric shade contributes to a well-balanced form. The scale of the shade is slightly smaller to provide a more consistent design for table top placement.

DESIGN CONCEPT:

• Created in 1971, Verner Panton’s Panthella design is one of his more popular. The basic light principle aimed to create a lamp in which the base as well as the shade would act as a reflector. The lamps light source is hidden under a milky-white, hemispheric acrylic shade and a white, trumpet-like base contributes to a beautiful distribution of light and a well balanced form. Several versions were produced during its early days, but Panthella with white shade and base is the only edition in production today. “The main purpose of my work is to provoke people into using their imagination.”- Verner Panton.
