Artecnica - Beads and Pieces Medium Ceramic Bowl

Handcrafted in the coca leaf-growing region of Peru, the Beads and Pieces Medium Ceramic Bowl is a beautifully sculpted work of art which features intricate beaded detail. A fragment of a four-piece ceramic collection designed by Hella Jongerius, the black body of this bowl embellished with delicate pink beading, is classic Jongerius. The unique beaded flap on the side of the bowl adds to the artful juxtaposition of elements. With the help of Aid to Artisans, a non-profit organization that provides practical assistance to artisans worldwide, Artecnica offers an alternative economic reality to the people of this dangerous and oppressed area. Beads & Pieces’ handcrafted and socially responsible origins are apparent in its design, and the ceramists’ workmanship is seen in the graceful curves of the black ceramic, a traditional Peruvian pottery technique. Some motifs from the indigenous Shipibo tribe are also incorporated into the beading which makes this piece a remarkable work of art.

Artecnica's initial focus was on visual excitement, artistic expression and use of exciting shapes and colors. The "eye" was king. As Artecnica grew, the reward of pure visual excitement was joined by intense commitment to design. They then started traveling the world, where they began exploring and sharing experiences. Specialized vendors were selected and collaborations with designers, merchants and craftsmen had begun. This allowed Artecnica to explore new materials experimentally and spontaneously.
