The shelf once hung is lovely. The hangers are either 14" on center or something like 17" (I can't remember). We ended up first drilling a 2x1" piece of scrap wood in the studs then hanging the shelf from there. We did not use any of the provided anchors or screws. Upside: our modified hanger is barely noticeable. Downside: we have a HUGE hole in the wall from the crummy anchors provided.
