They look great with a modern design. We installed them over the peninsula in the kitchen and had to spray paint the inside of the cone white as others did because the gold did not work with our design. It was a struggle to get the cord to stay even somewhat straight. They are a stamp piece of metal making them very light and feel a bit cheap, but no one is touching them so they work great for us!. I'm definitely happy with my purchase; they look great over my island! Knocking 1 star for two reasons: 1) it's not clear in the product photos that you must find a bulb large enough to peep out (I thought it might be a shade/cover), and 2) they're a little shaky and finicky which makes dusting them a bit of a pain..
