Excellent scale/size at the end of my queen size bed. Storage area is nice lined and not huge, but I will take all the storage I can get. Good height for sitting to put your socks on and comfortable. Yes, some odor upon opening. I aired for a couple of days with the lid open and some Febreeze. It still has an odor, but not terribly offensive. Expect it to continue fading. This is a beautiful bench (leather is nice!) and works perfectly in our bedroom. HOWEVER…be warned! It is hard as a brick!
