The size of your coffee table is just as important as its shape and style. It can totally change the feel and function of your room. Keep reading for our quick tips for finding the right size coffee table for your living room.

Coffee Table Size

When picking out a new coffee table, use a tape measure and follow the recommendations below for height, width, depth, and placement.

Height

The standard coffee table height is between 16" and 18". Your best option is to choose a coffee table that's the same height as your sofa cushions or 1" – 2" shorter. This way you can easily grab your cup of coffee, laptop, and anything else off of the tabletop.

Length

Choose a coffee table that's approximately two-thirds the length of your sofa. Anything longer might overwhelm your space.

Width + Placement

The width and placement of your coffee table go hand in hand. To make sure that everyone is able to easily move around the coffee table, we like keeping between 12" and 18" of space between the table and sofa. Keep 30" of space between the coffee table and other furniture, like your TV stand.

To figure out the best width for your coffee table, measure from your sofa to your TV stand (or whatever big piece of furniture you have in the room) and subtract 48" (30" + 18"). This will determine the best width (in inches) of your new coffee table.
