This is a nice Umbrella, it's not high end but the price fits the quality. We are using it on our balcony and will be ordering two completely different one's at a STORE for a table and outdoor area. This one came without tilting instructions, was a bit confusing but the crank needs to be cranked until it reaches the "small device" that is located towards the top, you stop and it begins to tilt. Basically don't open it up all the way for tilt to work. It works best with a heavy base. We also received the wrong umbrella/pattern the first time, keep in mind that they no longer pick up, if there's a problem you will need to drop off at a FedEx location.. Beautiful umbrella with thick, sturdy vertical pole. Assembly was easy - only a few steps. I used four 18" x 18" x 2.25" gray concrete stepping stones to hold the X base down firmly. These were readily available at a paver stone/stepping stone supply store. The instructions say that the stones can be up to 1.5" thick but, after checking carefully, I found the thicker ones fit just fine, and the extra thickness probably added some weight for even more stability.
