This is a beautiful piece. . . if you have a butler and want filtered water delivered in this carafe on a tray to your desk, or with your meal at bedside, or to quench your thirst while engrossed in a book in the library. It doesn't not serve as a vessel for water to reach for in the dark, when waking up in the night. Much too delicate for that! I do not recommend this for anyone who does not have a butler. This product demands a lifestyle that I do not have. Practicality is not its attribute. Going back to Perigold.
