With 5 up lights and 1 down light it gives plenty of light - which we have on a new dimmer. The down light is what set this light apart from any other light I was considering. It's great for tasking, which I do a lot of at our dining table, but also such pretty mood lighting at night when I have just that little light turned on - which you can operate all the different settings of what you prefer on or off on a switch on the light. We have 8' ceilings so just the 18" rod was perfect above our table. So very happy with this purchase. And came very quickly and so well packaged and protected.. Shelley. Indianapolis, IN.
