Black Plug In Sconce

The Overton 1 wall sconce by AllModern features a classic gooseneck design with a black finish and black drum shaped fabric shade. The two in one design of this wall sconce allows you to install it as a plug in so you can move it easily or hardwire in place for a long lasting look.

This sconce is really elegant and well priced. I love that the switch is positioned in a hidden but convenient spot, and the swing arm is smooth. The whole thing feels sturdy and looks great and lights up my reading corner. I will say that installing is sort of annoying, since you need the wall screws to be VERY close to the wall so the weight of the arm doesn’t shift the whole light. The included wall anchors are also pretty bad - I used my own. If you use the included ones you need a 3/16 drill bit for the anchors, wish the directions said that.. Sara. Mishawaka, IN. The shade is made of durable Shinpuru-sa fabric and will not perforate or dent easily like the rice paper alternatives. *Note: These shades are handmade and hand-stitched -- they are not mass-produced and therefore are not perfectly uniform. Each shade is unique, embracing the Japanese philosophy of Wabi-Sabi - the beauty of imperfection. If you prefer mass-produced perfection, this design may not be the best fit for you, but we love it.

The lamp is OK, but the build quality is poor. The metal frame for the shade doesn’t attach securely and stays crooked. I had to use tape to keep it straight. The dimmer is placed about a foot from the lamp, so if you mount it on the wall, you end up with a big black box hanging below it. It looks bad. I expected more. This dimmable sconce nestles a mid-century-style globe shade into a hemispherical steel cap, for an updated look that evokes a half moon. It’s crafted from frosted glass that’s evenly illuminated by an included LED bulb. Install it facing down for task lighting, or up for a more ambient glow.

The lights look great and we love them, however, there are a few things that aren’t visible in the stock photos I’ll point out that. First, they have a bit of a textured finish to them which you can’t really discern in the photos. It’s not bad, but unfortunately it doesn’t match the other fixtures in the bathroom that we have them in. Secondly, there are some white ‘bumpers’ to protect the glass globe sandwiched between the globe and the metal housing. They don’t bother me but my wife notices them and wishes they were more concealed. They are very stylish and unique though, we love the look of them!. Graham. Kalispell, MT. Tue Jan 25 2022
