The swivel is not too "loose" which means that the seat stays put when you're getting in and out. The seat swivels with just the right amount of effort and the base does not extend past the seat when turned, so no uncomfortable pokes to the legs. I think they are very comfortable, but am not sure how they would be for prolonged sitting. I have had many back surgeries, so the fact that I think they are comfortable says alot.
