It'll take some washing and airing out to get rid of it, and even then I don't know how long it'll take. It's stunk up the whole room and into the hallway. I probably would have changed my mind and put it outside on the line to get a better chance of airing out, except I worked my tail off to get it under my very heavy bed frame with an unwieldy mattress, so it's there until I move or die. Was slightly nervous if this rug would work, but it is perfect. Rug looks very rich and works perfectly in my living room. It is also cozy looking and comfortable to walk or sit on. Pretty neutral as well. The ends did not curl up much at all and have already flattened out. I would highly recommend this brand of rug.
