This is a very beautiful, high quality, chair. It is on the heavy side because I believe it is solid wood. It is finished with a smooth shiny coating. It is very sturdy and would complement many decors. It would be great as an extra chair when company comes. Pull out this beauty instead of the rickety one you have been meaning to replace. Or this would work as a student's desk chair and look great in that dorm room. However you use this great chair, you will be happy to have it on hand. I love mine and plan to use it a lot!!!. Beautiful and will go nicely with my table arriving soon. They are as pictured and incredibly sturdy. Don’t feel cheap. Assembly was easy and packaging was manageable; I live in an apartment building so dealing with furniture deliveries can be cumbersome. The only complaint I have which is not about the chair quality is the plastic wrap. It was stupidly hard to get off and I’m still having to go around with tweezers to get small pieces stuck under the upholstery. The way the plastic was sealed is under an inaccessible part of the chair so I would say that was a major production flaw. Other than the frustration this plastic issue caused, I love the chairs..
