We purchased the Cal King and a beautiful and solid wood piece that was easy to put together. We added a 9” box spring and have a 10” purple mattress on top; this gave a good height and I would recommend no lower then 18-20” because then you would see the non decorative slat on the headboard. The only issue, and this was in a previous review is that with the Cal King there is a few inches extra length. You don’t notice when the bed is made up but in order to keep your pillows from sliding off the bed we pushed the decorative pillows down between the mattress and headboard. I liked the piece enough to make the concession and maybe in the future we would build a 2x2 frame and add fabric to make an end piece to fit in here. If you push the mattress and box spring up to the head of the bed then you get the extra inches at the foot which is very obvious. The bed is beautiful and very well made. It takes at least 2 people to assemble and due to screws not lining up properly (i’ve read about this in other reviews as well) takes a decent chunk of time. Be aware that the frame sits much lower to the ground than it appears in the images, check the measurements. I gave 4 stars because the mattress sits very deep in to the frame, it was difficult to put sheets on. I had to purchase a 4” metal bed riser so that it would sit higher.. Natalie. OH. Structurally, the bed is excellent (5 stars). It has quality substantial parts which fit together well. Once assembled it is heavy, but that adds to the secure feeling once the box springs, mattress and bedding are on it. It is a lovely light grey velvet, and the perfect size and look for our room. However, NO WAY can you put it together in 2 hours. Took my husband 4+ hours, and he has worked on mechanical things for ~50 years. Plus he used some if his specialized tools. Absolutely gorgeous bed! I’m in love with the design and the patterned upholstery. It’s so fun while still being neutral. Shipping took about 2 weeks. It was packaged well and all the corners were padded which was a nice touch. Assembly took about 2-3 hours and wasn’t too difficult. All the hardware is included. You do need a flat head screwdriver though. I’ve put together other beds before and the quality really shows with this one. It’s solid and so, so worth the price! Love this bed!!. Jenna.
