Yes, some odor upon opening. I aired for a couple of days with the lid open and some Febreeze. It still has an odor, but not terribly offensive. Expect it to continue fading. Really pleased with my purchase. It’s a very sturdy bench. It’s not really soft upon sitting (but not uncomfortable once you’re seated), but I also don’t anticipate sitting on it often.
