Cut square and standing taller than it is wide, this holder reads as a small block of stone with a purpose. Alabaster is what makes it work, since light moves into the stone and comes back out soft and even. A tea light sits at the top, and the compact footprint means several can line a mantel, a dining table or a bathroom ledge.

Alabaster is translucent enough that light finds its way through the walls, which gives this round box a soft glow in daylight. Its shallow interior takes votives, jewelry or small keepsakes, and the lid lifts off easily. Wipe it down with a damp cloth to clean the stone.
