Miyabi metallic vase, inspired by the Japanese art of ikebana - the gentle and mindful arranging of flowers into sculptural bouquets. The Blomus vase was designed by Kazushige Miyake. Miyabi translates directly to elegance, grace, or sophistication. What could be a more appropriate name for an ikebana vase? Ikebana considers not only the shapes, lengths, and colors of the flowers and stems but also the surface of the water, which is displayed in the wide top portion of the vase.

A taste of Japan with Kazushige Miyake. The art of ikebana – the gentle and mindful arranging of flowers in sculptural bouquets – is an integral part of Japanese culture and is, therefore, the obvious source of inspiration for the new Miyabi vase, designed by Kazushige Miyake. Miyabi, the name of the new sculptural vase, would be directly translated to “elegance”, ”grace” or “refinement”. What could be a better name for an Ikebana vase? Please note the care instructions. For cleaning, we recommend the use of a damp cloth.

Minimalist, sculptural and contemporary, this beautifully proportioned stainless steel vase is understated enough not to fight visually with the flowers placed in it but strong enough to have a presence when empty, perhaps grouped with others of varying sizes. Moreover, the mirror-like shiny surface reflects back the colors in a room to give an additional decorative aspect. One of Georg Jensen’s most highly-regarded collaborators, Henning Koppel’s work was both elegant and practical. His vases, pitchers, clocks, and lamps have stood the test of time and continue to inspire the next generation of designers.

Bring in the bling. Milled aluminum creates a faceted and shiny form that makes flowers a very beautiful afterthought.

Iron reads sharper than most vase materials, and this folded shape uses that, all planes and clean creases rather than curves. Watertight inside, so fresh stems get the same treatment as dried ones. Slim and upright, it slides into a gap on a shelf where a rounder vase would struggle.

Sheet metal folded into a vase shape has a workshop honesty to it, with seams and edges left plainly in view. Iron keeps the walls thin, so the whole piece stays feather-weight on a shelf or a windowsill. Watertight inside, which means fresh stems and water are welcome despite how spare the thing looks.

Metal vases earn their place by contrast, cutting through a shelf of soft ceramics with a hard, folded edge. Iron keeps this one thin-walled and easy to lift, even set high on a ledge. Watertight inside, so a couple of fresh stems can live in water as happily as dried ones.

Compact iron vases fill the gap that taller pieces leave at the front of a shelf, low enough to see over and solid enough to stay put. Watertight inside, so a short stem in water works as well as a dried sprig. Pair it with a taller vase and the step in height makes the grouping read on purpose.
