notNeutral City on a Plate: Cairo

Celebrating one of eight featured cities - along with Los Angeles, Shanghai, Berlin, New Orleans, Dubai, Las Vegas and Washington D.C. - this 12" porcelain plate showcases the core of downtown Cairo against a dramatic a black background. Orange icons represent key buildings, alongside blue rivers and green public spaces. Cairo, inhabiting the banks and small islands of the majestic Nile River, lies at the intersection of three continents: Europe, Africa, and Asia. The large white edge of the plate represents the vast desert in surprisingly close proximity. As Africa's largest city, it is a major cultural center for the Middle East. The completion of the Suez Canal brought Westerners and a re-imagining of the city center. Influenced by the design of European cities – especially Paris – Cairo has transformed into the modern megalopolis it is today.
