iittala Kartio Set of Two 13 Oz. Tumblers

I was looking for modern glassware for the beach, these are amazing. Sturdy but so many fun colors to choose from make them a great glass for everyday use or for cocktails on the deck!!

These are narrower than the originals-maybe not so dramatic- but easier to hold/use. The Sand is a darker grey/brown than expected but lovely and coordinates with a variety of table settings. Like that the large size holds 13 oz and are tall enough to balance with stemmed wine glasses.

These glasses are beautiful. Uniform color and very sturdy. I was expecting them to be larger, almost pilsner size, but that is my error. They are lovely and I highly recommend them.

I have a set of Kartio glasses that I bought when living in Finland in the 1990's. These are great glasses - they feel good in the hand with an understated modern design and are rugged enough for everyday use. I like them so much, I decided to buy some more. The gotcha is that the design has changed. It flares more from the base to the lip and the glass is slightly thinner. This was a huge surprise (and disappointment). Iittala is celebrating the glasses 50th anniversary - but this seems s bit odd since the glass is not the same as the original. The new version of the glass is nice - in fact my wife likes the updated version more than the original. I prefer the original. The annoying part is that I now have mismatching Kartio glasses - and I wonder if Kaj Franck designed both versions... ...or could it be the 90's version is not the original and Iittala has gone back to the original...
