About the Designer
Verner Panton Denmark (1926 - 2004)
Born on February 13, 1926 in Denmark, Verner Panton is known as one of the most remarkable innovative talents of 20th century design and architecture. While growing up, he longed to become an artist, but showed little talent for painting and drawing. Despite this, he won a place at the technical college in Odense. After completing his studies on Odense, Panton moved to Copenhagen in 1947 to enroll as an architecture student. Finally in 1955, Panton started his own design office. Besides being a great designer of carpets, Panton also designs furniture, lamps, fabrics, curtains, room and space designs, watches and accessories. "The main purpose of my work is to provoke the people to use their own imagination" - Verner Panton .
Verner Panton's lamps are a celebration of color. For restaurants and hotels, when hung in clusters, they spread a festive mood. Topan is quite simply a smooth sphere with light emerging from one part. A disco ball before discos were invented.
