With its intuitive and equally self-evident shape, Hocker represents fundamental aspects of the conceptual style of work of Herzog & de Meuron. This impressive architectural design serves as a seat. It forms part of a series of additional objects and installations that accompany the architectural design work of the Basel architects as independent projects.
Established in 1978 and now with offices in Basel, London, Munich, and San Francisco, the Swedish architecture firm is well known internationally for their incredible buildings and works. In 2001, Herzog & de Meuron was awarded the Pritzker Prize, the highest of honors in architecture. Recent masterpieces include the Allianz Arena Football Stadium in Munich, The Forum Building in Barcelona, and the M. H. de Young Memorial Museum in San Franscisco.

Founded in Weil am Rhein, Germany, in 1950 by Willi Fehlbaum, Vitra has been the retailer of the works of many internationally renowned furniture designers. Throughout those 50 years Vitra has had one goal: to make the place of work as appealing, productive, and healthy as possible. Vitra furniture can be found in countless successful companies and organizations, as well as in the homes of many private individuals with an affinity for design.
Convinced that rooms and interior design have a decisive influence on people's motivation, performance, and health, Vitra has made it their mission to develop furniture and furnishing systems that stimulate, inspire, and motivate, while also offering the body comfort, safety, and support. In order to attain this goal, Vitra has worked with their specialized team and renowned designers. Over the years, Vitra has exemplified that they are not afraid to experiment with new and bold ideas and eagerly anticipate and look forward to facing the new challenges of the world of work.
Vitra is vigorously persistent in creating products of the highest quality. Once in the factory, the Vitra staff manufactures the furniture to precise standards, individually ensuring the quality of each product. The focus on quality does not end at the factory door. Providing clients with premier service is just as important as manufacturing furniture. In order to further ensure the high quality in all Vitra products, Vitra has set up their own test center which monitors products against criteria that are far more stringent than the statutory standards.
