Born in Oviedo in 1961, Spanish designer Patricia Urquiola studied Architecture at the Madrid Polytechnic. She went on to graduate the Milan Polytechnic University in 1989 with Achille Castiglioni as her advisor. She served as Castiglioni's assistant from 1990 to 1992, and from 1990 to 1996 she also acted as a cooperative with Vico Magistretti at the Product Development Office for De Padova.
In 1996 Urquiola became a partner and designer at Studio Lissoni and Associates. In 2001, she opened her own studio where she supervises numerous designs, installations, and architectural commissions. Her work has also generated mass appeal in the creation of consumer products for Alessi, with her sleek modern lines and geometric inspirations. Urquiola worked closely with Eliana Gerotto on the Caboche and Bague series for Foscarini.
