Saarinen, Eero

The son of celebrated Finnish architect Eliel Saarinen, Eero Saarinen became a design legend himself. Saarinen was classically trained in sculpture and architecture, and after studying fine arts in Paris and architecture at Yale, he delved into furniture design. His collaboration with Charles Eames in 1937 led to the creation of the Organic Armchair; made from plywood and foam rubber, it was the first 3D shaped bucket armchair. Saarinen continued to work with similar materials, designing such classics as the Grasshopper, Womb, and Tulip chairs.

Some of Saarinen's best known architectural achievements includes Dulles Airport in Washington DC, the Gateway Arch in St. Louis, and the TWA Terminal at Kennedy International Airport in New York.
