A leading figure in all fields of design, artist Karim Rashid is best known for his democratic design sensibility. He is radically changing the aesthetics of product design and the very nature of the consumer culture, designing for an impressive array of clients, from Alessi to Dirt Devil, Umbra to Prada, and Miyake to Method. Half Egyptian and half English, Rashid was born in Cairo, raised in Canada, and now practices in New York.
A recipient of the Sleep05 European Hotel Design Award and the 2005 Pratt Legends Award, Rashid was a 2007 Cooper Hewitt National Design Awards Product Design Finalist. He has Honorary Doctorates from the Ontario College of Art and Design and Corcoran College.
