Born in Helsinki, Finland, in 1943, Heikki Orvola is one of the driving forces behind modern Finnish design. Orvola has designed for the industrial art business, as well as in a variety of different materials, including glass, ceramics, cast iron, and textiles as a form of pure, artistic expression.
During his career as a designer, Orvola has received many awards and prizes, including the 1998 Kaj Franck prize, perhaps Finland’s most important design prize. Orvola is the mastermind behind iittala's Kivi candle holders and their bright new Aika dinnerware line.
