About the Designer
Antonia AstoriAntonia Astori Italy (1940 - )

Born in Melzo (Milan) in 1940, she studied Industrial and Visual Design at the Athenaeum in Losanna, obtaining her degree in 1966. In 1968 she began designing for driade, also helping to define the company image by designing exhibitions and installations all over the world. Her work revolves around the design system's formal potential, conceived as an "open work" that also allows the user to contribute to its final definition. These criteria led to the container systems driade 1 (1968), Oikos (1972), Bric (1977) with Enzo Mari, Oikos 2 (1980), Kaos (1986), Pantos (1993), and Fuoko (1998). Alongside her work on systems she pursues research into furniture of the memory, understood as "home architecture", resulting in the Aforismi design system (1984), the Sans Souci collection (1990), the Pandora series of containers (1994), and the Epiplos collection (2003). As well as her work in this field she also designs interiors. In 1984 she began working with the French stylists Marith? and Fran?ois Girbaud, first designing their store in Paris, then in Brussels, Montreal, San Francisco, Milan and Aix En Provence. Since the '90s she has designed dadriade showrooms all over the world: Milan in 1994, Berlin in 1996, Tokyo in 1997 and Rome in 2001, with an ongoing involvement in the showroom design and fitting-out. Antonia Astori's role in the national and international scene is completed with her presence at important events, such as Eurodomus in Turin in 1971, under the aegis of Gio Ponti, the exhibition Design Donne in 1985 in Tokyo, and numerous contributions to the Milan Triennale and the Abitare il tempo trade fair in Verona.
