About the Designer
Patricia Urquiola Spain (1961 - )
Born in Oviedo in 1961, Patricia Urquiola studied Architecture at the Madrid Polytechnic and at the Milan Polytechnic University where she graduated in 1989 with Achille Castiglioni as her supervisor for whom she acted as an assistant at the Milan Polytechnic from 1990 to 1992. From 1990 to 1996 she also acted as a cooperative with Vico Magistretti at the Product Development Office for De Padova. In 1996 she became a partner and designer at Studio Lissoni and Associates. However, in 2001 she opened her own studio where she looks after numerous designs, installations and architectural commissions. Her design work has also generated mass appeal in the creation of consumer products for Alessi, with her sleek modern lines and geometric inspirations. The Orloff bowl design is a perfect example of such characteristics. Created with the inspiration of an inverse geodetic dome, this bowl has been formed from a single sheet of stainless steel. It has been called a masterpiece and will continue to prevail as a contemporary work of art for the home table for years to come.
The Bloomy table can be used in a variety of situations, either to accompany the sofa and armchairs, or standing happily on it's own.
