Since Royal Tichelaar has made porcelain buttons for Van Slobbe's fashion label Orson + Bodil and a hand painted cap for one of his perfumes, Alexander van Slobbe and Tichelaar are well acquainted and discovered a common vision. Both value dedicated hand work, quality materials and the importance of history highly. They embarked on the project 'Pearls of Makkum', which for Tichelaar might be considered a launching pad into the world of fashion. 'Pearls of Makkum' comprises a series enlarged, flattened as well as halved porcelain 'pearls', made with different glazing and decorations. The 'pearls' can be bought as complete necklace or one by one, to enable the wearer to compose her own 'pearl' rope. These 'Pearls of Makkum' have become desirable alternatives to the traditional pearl chain.


With various glazing and decorations, the pearls can be bought either as complete necklace or be composed by the client from the assorted 'pearls' in any combination of color and shape, to form a unique string of 'pearls'.
