Product Details

Poul Hennignsen Poul Henningsen was born in Copenhagen to the famous Danish actress Agnes Henningsen. He never graduated as an architect, but studied at The Technical School at Frederiksberg, Denmark from 1911-14 and then at Technical College in Copenhagen from 1914-17.He started practicing traditional functionalistic architecture, but over the years his professional interests changed to focus mainly on lighting which is what he is most famous for. He also expanded his field of occupation into areas of writing, becoming a journalist and an author. His lifelong collaboration with Louis Poulsen Lighting began in 1925 and lasted until his death. To this day, Louis Poulsen Lighting still benefits from his genius. Poul Henningsen's pioneering work concerning the relations between light structures, shadows, glare, and color reproduction - compared to man's need for light remains the foundation of the lighting theories still practiced by Louis Poulsen Lighting. The PH 5 Pendant (1958) provides a glare free illumination and features a design of visible reflectors that ensures that light is directed both vertically and horizontally. The light is diffused through a sand-blasted glass shield located in the lower shade. This unique pendant is designed to hang low above a table and provide glare free light. The 3 white shades and cone are mounted on three purple legs. The two smaller colored shades enhance the part of the spectrum of light least sensitive to the eye. Designed by: Poul Hennignsen

Beautiful lamp

We looked for something with a clean look and a great light. PH5 has that. Although designed so long ago, it still feels quite modern. We are very happy with it.

Perfect midcentury lamp.

I bought this pendant for our dining room- it [...] gives off a glowing, soft light. The red and purple colours painted within the lamp are reflected beautifully. I really appreciate the thoughtful and classic design of the PH5 and know that I will treasure it for many years to come.

Beautiful classic

The problem with this unit is changing bulbs. Lower unit attaches to upper with minimal purchase of about 2 mm. Without caution it could fall onto your dining room table.

52 years design, still so stylish!

This master piece of lamp design is timeless modern in its design and has been upgraded to take a 'stronger' lamp, which makes it even more functional. It is our focal point over our Piet Hein super elliptical dining table.

A Thing of Beauty

This product was designed in 1926 and is still ahead of modern day pendant lamps in look and functionality.

Superb design and built quality

Great over a dining table where you may spend a few hours with friends. The diffused light provided by the PH 5 lamp is very pleasing. It doesn't tire the eyes. When it's dark in the room, the lamp looks almost like a lighted spaceship waiting for its landing orders!
