Bertil Vallien Sweden (1938 - )

Bertil Vallien was born in 1938 north of Stockholm. He trained in ceramics at the Technical School of Arts and has a master’s degree in industrial design. After he completed his studies, Bertil Vallien worked for some years in Los Angeles where his art attracted much attention. Bertil Vallien is a master of dimension. He worked as a glass designer for Kosta Boda from 1963 but was noted for several other genres. Examples of Bertil Vallien’s work can be seen at all of the large Swedish art museums.

While the Domino series was designed expressly for male tastes and use as accessories, say for a man’s office, there is nothing exclusively masculine about the appeal of Domino. These handmade, footed plate-bowls are striking as art, and functional, too, for a variety of uses, in home or workplace. Seemingly frozen in solid crystal, the designer’s signature motifs in silver or colored glass: mysterious heads, flying man, running man, hearts, rivers, snow. For Father’s Day, Valentine’s Day, housewarmings, promotions, or just “I love you, man.”
