About the Designer
Warren Platner United States (1919 - )

Warren Platner studied architecture at Cornell University. Following his work with legendary designers Raymond Loewy, Eero Saarinen and I. M. Pei, he immersed himself in the creation of steel wire furniture, devising the method and tooling to produce the lounge chair in the line as well. Notable among his residential and commercial projects are the Georg Jensen Design Centre and the Windows on the World restaurant in the World Trade Centre, both in New York City

In the midst of the modern design movement in the 1960s, Warren Platner turned a simple concept -- transforming steel wire into a unique and supremely modern sculptural furniture collection -- into a creative masterpiece: the Platner Table series. This classic table will surely make quite a statement in your living room, den or office.

The Design

Designed in 1966, the Platner Coffee Table is truly a unique piece. Considered by many to be a design icon of the modern era, the Platner Table's harmonious forms are created by welding curved vertical steel wire rods to circular frames, producing a moiré effect.

Decorative, gentle and graceful, the Platner Coffee Table is truly one of a kind. An elegant latecomer to the mid-century modern movement, this table works in virtually limitless settings thanks to a diverse array of tabletop options. In addition, a metallic bronze base finish is now available alongside the original polished nickel finish, while a bronzed glass top option has been added to further expand its applications.

• Frame made of vertical steel rods welded to circular horizontal and edge-framing rods
• Nickel base comes in bright nickel finish with clear lacquer protection
• Bronze base comes in painted metallic bronze
• Base features clear plastic extrusion ring for smooth bottom surface
• Glass top is 3/8"-thick tempered glass
• Wood tops constructed of veneered medium density fiberboard with cathedral grain pattern
• Wood tops 1 1/16"-thick with 1/4" solid wood edge
• Marble tops are 3/4"-thick bevel-edged satin smooth laminate or marble
• Coated marble tops have transparent polyester coating to help eliminate use-associated stains
• Natural marble tops and granite tops have protective sealer
