Finished in either black or white laminate, this table is a striking addition to waiting rooms, reception areas, executive lounges, and homes – from landlocked to beachfront.

• Charles and Ray Eames considered many shapes for this large table introduced in 1951, but their final choice was elliptical. It reminds some of a surfboard. That's fitting, given that the Eameses enjoyed commanding views of the Pacific Ocean from their California home and studio.
  
  
• Charles and Ray Eames spent many years experimenting with wire rods, work that yielded a number of breakthrough products in the 1950s - including the wire-rod base for this table, the Eames Wire-Base Table, the Eames Wire Chair, and other products.
