In the last few decades, Don Chadwick has pioneered the use of modern materials, moulding processes and mechanisms leading to cutting-edge products that have raised the standard for their market. A native of Southern California, Don Chadwick received his principal training in design at the University of California, Los Angeles. He then worked for architect Victor Gruen before establishing his own practice in 1964. In 1974, Chadwick designed Chadwick Modular Seating. In collaboration with William Stumpf he designed the Equa 1 flexing-plastic chair (1984). Then in 1994, the landmark Aeron chair catapulted Chadwick to national attention, the Industrial Designers Society of America and Business Week Magazine awarded Design of the Decade to the Aeron chair in 1999. Chadwick has received numerous awards over the past three and a half decades. Chadwick's relationship with Knoll marks a milestone in the career of an inventive designer. "I am gratified to be part of the Knoll legacy, I consider Knoll to be at the highest level of contemporary design, and our collaboration is a notable one for me." with the Chadwick chair, he has proven himself as effective at bringing a product to market as he has been at creating the market itself.Bill Stumpf
The design that fulfilled these criteria met all expectations and shattered some of them. It wasn't upholstered. It wasn't padded. It was dimensioned in three models that looked exactly alike and that had nothing to do with their users' job titles. It didn't look like any other office chair. And its revolutionary concept incorporated more patentable ideas than any previous Herman Miller research program."It was a matter of deliberate design to create a 'new signature shape',"says designer Bill Stumpf. "Competitive ergonomic chairs became look-alikes. Differentiation was a huge part of the Aeron design strategy, and it remains one of, if not the most, critical aspects of Aeron's success."With its highly adjustable features, its breathable and supportive Pellicle fabric suspension technology, and its unique back support options, the Aeron accommodates the sitter like no other office chair on the market.Combining distinctive looks with pioneering ergonomics, Aeron performs like no other chair. Adaptable to all sizes and shapes and all the motions you go through every day while seated, Aeron provides healthy comfort and balanced body support with its innovative suspension and easy-to-use adjustment controls.

Love this chair. I was having neck and back problems and this chair really helped. There was some light assembly involved, which took my husband less than 30 min to complete.

Anyone who spends significant amount of time in front of a desk must have one of these chairs. It's like peanut butter and jelly. Ham and eggs. Desk and Aeron Chair!

Had issues with first one with a cable not running correctly but got it fixed. Works we'll now. Maybe I did not need large but cannot sat - I'm 6'3 but seat seems very wide for me
Worth Every Penny

This chair has brought comfort to my posterior for many years. It is truly in a class above other chairs. My only complaint is that after a while, a lot of the hardware becomes loose.

Bought this for my home office - wish I had done so long ago! Ordering was a snap, delivery was on time, and it was easy to put together. Only small issue was that my box did not include the hex wrench needed but I had one that fit from another purchase.

If your work day is extensively sitting at a desk, this chair is a MUST. What upfront seems very expensive is actually reasonable when the warranty and comfort are factored in.
Herman Miller began in 1923 as a manufacturer of traditional residential furniture, became a leader in "modern" furniture in the 1930s and 1940s; developed lasting ties through the 1950s with legendary industrial designers who led the company in new directions; transformed the office furniture industry with the first panel system in the 1960s; invented and refined ergonomic work seating in the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s; reinvented the geometry of systems furniture in 2000, and is today the second largest office furniture company with customers and locations around the world. Their history of employee participation and ownership and technological innovation has long roots and continues to grow. They have always worked hard to be serious about both people and business. They look at their primary goal as creating great places to work.
George Nelson laid out five tenets of Herman Miller's design philosophy 50 years ago:
While fashion and style have their place, the main criterion for a Herman Miller product has remained constant: Does it truly solve a problem that people care about in a way that improves upon other solutions, or pioneers a new and better answer altogether? The answer is Yes.
