About the Designer
Rob Brandt

Brandt (1946 Gorssel, The Netherlands) works in the area between serious art and kitsch and sometimes balances perilously on the edge. He makes use of widely-known images in our society, plays with clichés, picks out the aspects he feels are important at that moment, and constructs a new image. In search of the meaning of beauty, he has unusual powers of association. Inspired by the familiar plastic coffee cups you just have to squeeze, if only to hear their crackling sound, this ‘crushed' cup was born. Ceramicist Rob Brandt has been making these with pleasure since 1975.
