Scott Klinker

Scott Klinker believes a great product should inspire your imagination. Klinker heads the graduate 3D design program at the world-renowned Cranbrook Academy of Art as Designer-in-Residence, where he also received his MFA in 1996. After years of designing in more conventional corporate contexts, Klinker ventured to Japan in 1999 to lead a product design program at the Kanazawa International Design Institute and founded his independent studio, Scott Klinker Product Design - focused on developing licensed designs for contract furniture, household goods and toys. You can see Scott's products at Design Within Reach Stores, Chicago's NEOCON furniture show and New York's International Contemporary Furniture Fair. His work has been featured in ID Magazine, Metropolis, Wallpaper, Interior Design Magazine, The New York Times, and Fortune Magazine.

The best thing about high school geometry was the mandatory use of a protractor. And here's why: no matter how steady our hand we were never able to draw angles perfectly. The 45-degree angle eluded us by 3 degrees and the 90-degree angle was always more like 94-degrees. It was really the protractor that got us through our junior year.
