Humberto Campana originally trained as a lawyer, and his brother Fernando as an architect. But the brothers and longtime partners began designing in 1983, and soon achieved worldwide recognition. Their pieces embody the creativity and spirit of Brazil, combining chaos with practical solution, fusing pandemonium with poetry.
With their dynamic design team Fratelli Campana, the brothers take an experimental approach to design, transforming ordinary materials into priceless objects. The exchange of information in their pieces creates bridges and dialogue between communities and industries, which is a constant source of inspiration for the duo.
The brothers’ Estudio Campana designs are part of the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris, and the Vitra Design Museum in Weil am Rhein, Germany. The pieces are hallmarked by the brothers’ use of materials in their raw state and experimentation with poor and recycled matter.
