Blu Dot furniture (born in 1997) was founded by John Christakos, Charles Lazor, and Maurice Blanks. The firm began as a loose collaboration of three college friends trained in architecture and art, based on the premise that design should be affordable. The partners chose furniture as the subject of interest and opened a studio and operations in Minneapolis in 1996. Blu Dot has begun to realize their vision with a collection of over 40 furniture pieces that are both elegantly abstract and unambiguously functional. Blu Dot pieces are in the permanent collections of several museums, have been seen on the sets of well-known television shows such as Friends and ER, and have won numerous national and international awards. The furniture collection is distributed around the world.

Blu Dot Cant Writing Desk
nice item, terrible packaging

Bought this desk in gray for the guestroom that had very tight space. It fits in nicely with the modern architecture of our home, and complements both the modern and the more tactile traditional types of furniture in that room. However, the packaging was subpar for a Blue Dot product. The box was full of 12 thick styrofoam pads, in which the corners of the furniture parts dug deep holes during shipping, covering the entire room in electrostatic pellets upon opening. It was as if it snowed in the room. Took a few turns with a vacuum cleaner to get the tiny pellets off the nooks of the furniture and from all over the room. Because of that, assembly took a few hours, instead of 30min. We ended up with 2 XL size garbage bags of styrofoam which is hard to dispose in an environmentally conscious way. Even IKEA does a better job of saving resources and eco-friendly packaging. Product is made in China. Blue Dot should put an effort into paying attention to ecofriendly recyclable packaging.
Makes me want to write!

I needed a smallish desk for my bedroom with a splash of color, but not too much, so I took a chance on this desk with the red shelf. It's perfect! Pretty easy to put together and has a nice space for work. I'm using it right now! My husband liked it so much that I have now ordered him the desk but with the pale gray shelf. My only quibble is that I had hoped the walnut would have prettier shading...it's pretty dark and not very expensive looking, but all in all it's a great desk. Highly recommend.
