Artifort Recliners / Lounge Chair by René Holten

Holten (1961) made his first design for Artifort û the DoDo - in 1997. It immediately won the prize for Best Dutch Furniture Design 1998. Since then Holten has made a major impression on Artifort's collection. He likes the company's seating for its sober, clear designs. Holten holds a degree from the Design Academy in Eindhoven, among others.

Sleek, smooth and functional is an apt description of Ren Holten''s Lotus and Low Lotus. Made from Cristal plant, a new composite material that''s snow-white, a hard as marble, soft to the touch and easy to clean. The design of the Lotus and Low Lotus stretches the frontiers of this material to its limits. The way in which the molded tablet flows into the shell is only possible with this sort of composite material. The central stainless-steel base with its four slim legs emphasizes the sloping shape of the shell. The Low Lotus has been designed for the homes market. For the contract market, there''s the Lotus, with a molded tablet for writing or working with a laptop. Innovative and functional design.
