Stefano Giovannoni Italy (1954 - )Born in La Spezia in 1954, Stefano as an architect and designer was taught by Buti at Florence University. In the early 80Æs he founded the King-Kong Production Group along with Guido Venturini. His explosive talent enables him to embody a complex system of 'affective codes' in his projects. This great approach won him the title of 'Super and Popular' designer in the 90Æs. A technical designer par excellence, he has industrial design in his DNA and the capacity to understand public sentiment like no other designer. His projects began with the "Girotondo" (1989 designed with Guido Venturini) and the first transparent objects in plastic from the "Family Follows Fiction" series (1993). There is a huge number of his items in the "Officina Alessi", "Alessi" and "A di Alessi" catalogues.
This new family of objects is part of an ongoing collaboration with the National Palace Museum in Taiwan, which began in 2007 with the "Chin Family". Coming into close contact with the extraordinary collection of art works at the National Palace Museum set Stefano's imagination racing, inspiring him to explore the millennial tradition of Chinese applied arts and develop his own contemporary interpretation of them. Many of pieces from the Orientales series are very reminiscent of Giovannoni's works in the "Chin Family". Characters of flowers and fruits, each performing the roles of domestic household objects, are made partly in hand-decorated plastic and fine bone china. The magic of Giovannoni's design lies in the fact that these objects recall the grace of 18th century ceramic trinkets, while at the same time being utterly contemporary. Giovannoni's whimsical style and penchant for vibrant colors are very apparent in the hand-decorated "Secret Fish" All Purpose Box. Whether storing your change or other small accessories, the melamine "Secret Fish" will definitely add some vibrance to its surroundings. Features:| Item: | Dimensions: | Weight: |

Fun to look at & useful too! I keep stamps & address labels in it and maybe some scotch tape & some paper clips & rubber bands. It looks great sitting on my desk--very sculptural & fun with its amusing hammerhead fish shape --reminds me of the goldfish with the buggy eyes we had as kids. Or would if it were the reddish-orange color I'd ordered. What came, though, was a maroon color instead. When I'd purchased it previously, it came the proper color as illustrated/advertised. This one is not even close! I kept it, though, as it is still an interesting, useful little container [...] |
