Born in Cairo, Egypt in 1960, he is a leading figure in the fields of product, interior, fashion, furniture, lighting design and art. Designing for an impressive array of clients from Alessi to Dirt Devil, Karim is radically changing the aesthetics of product design and the very nature of the consumer culture. Karim's designs have appeared on MTV, VH1, HGTV, Friends, MTV Europe, The Style Channel, Fine Living and Fashion Television. This Citrus basket Hellraiser, designed by Karim Rashid, recalls unstructured architecture. The erratic path of the drawing on all the sides, together with the irregular perforations, create a geometric effect that is disorienting and makes it difficult to perceive how many sides the basket has.
