The Design:
- Aarnio's idea for the Tomato Chair sprung from his desire to improve upon a specific feature of the Pastil Chair. He described his observations as follows: "I realized that Pastil Chair floats and carries the person who sits in it in water but it is very rickety. If there were three items, like two great armrests and the back of the chair, it would be stable, and this is how the idea of the Tomato Chair was born." These three points of the chair create a balanced whole that provides structured support.
Why is this piece named the Tomato Chair? The name comes not from a resemblance of an actual tomato but rather the word itself, as Aarnio explained, "the name reflects its looks: looking at the chair from the front there are two round shapes, i.e. two circles, like in the word tOmatO."- If a perfunctory glance at the Tomato Chair suggests a complex structure, closer inspection reveals an ingeniously simple combination of three spheres with the same diameter - two are armrests and one is stretched to form a comfortable back - and a half-circle which forms the chair's seat. Seen from various angles, the Tomato Chair appears to be as much a sculpture as a chair.

Delivery InstructionsThis item will be delivered by a white glove freight carrier to ensure the safest and most convenient delivery. Please note:
- A white glove delivery team consists of at least two people so you will not be burdened with carrying your order from the back of the truck to your home.
- Once your order arrives in your area, a representative from the white glove carrier will call you to arrange a 4 hour window for delivery.
- You must inspect your package at the time of delivery. If the product has any damage or if you are concerned there may be damage, please write "Product Damaged" on the sheet you are asked to sign. This ensures that if there is any damage, it will be easy to resolve the problem.

- Packaging: The shipper will remove and dispose of all packaging.
