Born in 1932, acclaimed Finnish designer Eero Aarnio changed the face of industrial design through his groundbreaking use of plastic. The Pastil Chair, reminiscent of a bright piece of candy, is an example of his highly innovative vision. The New York Times described the Pastil Chair and the iconic

Design Year: 1967
The Design:
- Aarnio designed the Pastil Chair shortly after the Ball Chair, both of which the Conran Directory of Design says "look like essays in period style, perhaps from Barbarella." Aarnio explained that the Pastil Chair was an extension of the design of the Ball Chair: "The Pastil shape can be looked at from many angles. The product shape comes from a small sweetie, pastil, but in this case the idea was that a lot of empty, cushioned space is sent to the other side of the world inside the Ball Chair. A new round chair would fit in this space, and so the diameter of the Pastil is the same as the opening of the Ball Chair."
- The Pastil Chair's shape is also an ideal match for its material properties, as Aarnio remarked, "because fiberglass is always laminated by hand on a smooth mold, the visible surface is perfectly shiny but the other surface slightly rough. In the Pastil it is ideally on the inside and thus totally invisible."
- The Pastil Chair is an extremely versatile piece of seating. It rocks forwards, backwards, and side to side and is able to adapt to many environments, equally adept at floating on water or sliding down a snowy hill.

This item will be delivered by a white glove freight carrier. White glove carriers are different from common carriers in that they provide the customer with many benefits throughout the delivery process. Unlike common carriers, a white glove delivery team consists of at least two people so you will not be burdened with helping the driver carry your order from the back of the truck to your home.
Important note: Once your order arrives in your area, a representative from the white glove carrier will call you to arrange a 4 hour window for delivery. You MUST inspect your package at the time of delivery. If the product has any damage, or if there is any reason for you to be at all concerned about damage, please write "PRODUCT DAMAGED" clearly on the sheet that they ask you to sign. This simply insures that if there is any damage, it will be easy to take care of the problem.

We offer 2 different levels of service for this item: White Glove Gold and White Glove Platinum. White Glove Gold
Gold service level provides two-man delivery to inside your residence to the room you choose. This service includes carrying the product up two flights of stairs from the building threshold (4-15 steps = 1 flight). If you need the product moved up additional flights please contact us*. Once the product is in the room you desire, the shipper will unpack the product and provide basic setup that requires no tools (i.e. will set pieces next to each other, or on top of each other). The shipper will also remove and dispose of all packaging.
White Glove Platinum
Platinum service level provides two-man delivery to inside your residence to the room you choose. This service includes carrying the product up two flights of stairs from the building threshold (4-15 steps = 1 flight). If you need the product moved up additional flights please contact us*. Once the product is in the room you desire, the shipper will unpack the product and provide light setup that requires basic tools (i.e. pieces will be screwed or bolted together, set pieces next to each other, or on top of each other). The shipper will also remove and dispose of all packaging.
*In all cases the shipper will not hookup any electrical or component wires. Having items carried up more than 25 steps and longer assembly periods are available as additional services which would require additional charges. Please contact us if you feel you need these services.
