Lifestyle blogger Lindsay Jackman opens the door to her eclectic home.

Influenced by country, modern, and bohemian aesthetics, Lindsay Jackman brings the same eclectic vibe to her lifestyle blog, White Buffalo Styling Co., as she does to her updated farmhouse. Using warm and rustic pieces, Lindsay created a down-home look, while clean lines and trendy accessories modernize the space. Take a peek at her style, which is altogether one of our faves!

How would you describe your décor style?

Eclectic is always the first word that comes to mind when I try to describe my style. That word is thrown around a lot in the design world these days, but it really is the best description of our home. I love mixing styles. I grew up on a farm, so I like to bring in country elements and rustic wood. But I also love clean lines, curvy chandeliers, unexpected color, and pattern mixes.

What was the inspiration for your home?

I really didn't begin designing this house with a plan. I knew I wanted white walls to contrast against our wood beams, and I planned to layer on texture and color. I just started bringing in things I was drawn to. My main design rule is to not follow any rules and do what you love. I think that results in a collected home that isn't too matchy.

What is your favorite room or space in the house?

I love all of the rooms, but the kitchen is my absolute favorite. The country feel of it is really reminiscent of my childhood, and the bright white just makes me happy. The view of the colorful kilim runner and the live-edge island makes me giddy every time I see it.

What items did you splurge on vs. save?

We are very budget conscious, so most of the furnishings were DIYs and budget-friendly finds. I absolutely love rugs, so a good patterned, colorful rug is something I will splurge on. It sets the tone for the entire the room. I'll then save on the other furnishings. For example, we wanted a leather couch, but didn't have any money in the budget for that after finishing the renovation. We looked on Craigslist and found this Bernhardt leather chesterfield in new condition for $500.

What advice do you have for those that want to achieve your style?

Start with a neutral base, like white, because you can pile so much on top of it! I love high-contrast, bold color pairings and lots of pattern. That might be way too much against a blue wall, but it works against white. Then, have fun! Pick some unexpected colors and use them in major ways. My design process usually consists of picking a vibrant rug and then choosing complementary colors for accent pieces and accessories from the rug palette. That makes the room feel collected without being expected.

What was your biggest decorating, renovation, or DIY failure?

I absolutely love dark floors and have always wanted them in our house, so when it came time to choose the floor color, it was a no-brainer. But from the very beginning we struggled with them. We have a Great Dane that loves to play inside and we soon realized that dark floors show every single scratch and speck of dust. They also made the house feel really dark. Even though the walls were white, the main living spaces didn't have very much natural light. The dark floors and beams made it feel like a cave, instead of the bright, airy space I'd pictured. I worked hard in this house to lighten it up with the furnishings, but it did make me choose lighter floors when we moved.

What do you hide when company comes over?

The dog toys. Our sweet pup leaves half-eaten toys all over the house. We've had guests come in and immediately trip over a squeaky toy. I love for our home to feel lived-in and not staged to perfection, but those do go away.
