Part of our first series of City Plates. The theme of the first collection is City as Gateway, and the cities chosen are Los Angeles, Shanghai, Cairo and Berlin. With this theme we ask: how is each city dealing with the effects of agglomeration as its population begins to reach critical mass?

Berlin - Berlin is the geographical center of Europe. The dramatic white band on the plate marks where the Berlin Wall once stood. Though the reunification of East and West Berlin has not been easy, the fall of the Wall has led to the sharing of ideas and art, and has shaped Europe’s post-Cold War future. Berlin is consistently heralded as a modern marvel, and is regarded as one of the world’s great showcases of architectural freedom and expression.

The City Plates measure 12” across. Key buildings are represented with persimmon icons, while rivers and public spaces are shown in blue and green.

Perfect gift for a design professional, map lover, or traveller

from Seattle, WA on 11/08/2015 – Verified Buyer

I have bought 8 of these plates over the years through this site. My review of the Seattle City Plate applies equally to the Berlin plate. I especially love how the graphics on this plate show the split between the old East and West parts of the city (a dead give-away if you're trying to guess from looking at the graphics which city this plate depicts).

Pros: Well made, handsome, and entertaining
Cons: None
