4 OUT OF 5 STARS AINT BAD! from Memphis, TN on 08/29/2013
Based on previous experience with M&P sets, plus ATK's and this site's reviews, I got this set as a house warming gift for good friends and broke it in myself by making them guacamole. This proved to be a good overall test, for it involved pounding up both fresh and dry herbs, tomatoes and avocados that were not quite ripe enough, hard peppercorns and mustard seeds, and mixing these and other ingredients all together to make a super-smooth paste. Contrary to another's review, I found it needs no break-in at all, and I like the heavy weight that prevents walking, the flawless construction, and how the stone is a perfect match to my friends' conventional-pattern granite countertops. Arguably the original food processor, a M&P is a whole lot easier to use and clean than those machines. Two minuses--the reason I docked it a star--are 1) the capacity, just short of 3 cups, is far too small to call a Goliath, as I would prefer it to hold twice that much and 2) the pestle cannot be held securely when slippery substances such as avocado are on it, and it would be more maneuverable were it another couple inches longer. All in all, it's the best M&P set I've found, and I would not hesitate to recommend it.

Its BIG! from WA on 04/21/2013 – Verified Buyer
The Goliath is really Big and Heavy! Fantastic for Grinding Spices, Seeds, Nuts, Berries, and so on! Needs extensive Breaking in, as it is so Rough that the first few times you use it, it will provide a lot of stone dust. I just ran it empty a few times, with Washing between runs, till the Dust lightened up. This Mortar is probably too heavy for some folks. Some weight could have been shaved by Hollowing out the base some. Works Great for Big and Medium Jobs, not so good for Powdering Pills (the stone is too coarse to do Pills - You need one of the Little Porcelain Jobbies for that Duty). Handles are only suggestions. I am breaking in the Small end of the Pestle for a more concentrated force at times. America's Test Kitchen Rated this as the Best - I will have to concur, not having tested them all myself. It is better than any others I have.

Goliath - No Kidding from Medical Lake, WA on 03/31/2015 – Verified Buyer
This is the perfect Morris and pestle for making a great batch of guacamole. It holds a lot so fun to use at parties. It washes up easy. Only caution is the bottom is scratchy so don't drag it on a counter or wood table.

The "real thing" from Silverdale, WA on 10/20/2014 – Verified Buyer
This was a gift to my daughter. She was amazed at the weight and the quality of it. It will be left out on the counter as she will be using it frequently.

This set is awesome! It's big enough to make large quantities yet small amounts are easily blended in it as well. its heavy and doesn't slide around the counter, I love it
