Debuting in 2008, the Botanist Blank Canvas project features the original, limited-edition Collections of eight designers. Each designer began with a blank Botanist end table, cocktail table and bench and then imprinted them with a unique design. Not only are these pieces eco-friendly, durable and stunning, they also give back: a portion of the sale of every product in the Blank Canvas series goes to a charity of the designer''s choice. This bench features the flowing branch design of Joseph Ricchio, who has worked on a multitude of projects in product, furniture and graphic design, with Kara Larsen. What was your inspiration? ''The concept is my expression of the beauty of life. I chose a delicate and elegant branch with dew dropping off of it to represent earth, water and life.'' Why is it important for you to give back? ''DIFFA: Design Industry Fighting Aids. I have been donating to them for many years for a variety of reasons: 1) Larry Pond was the Director of Design at Stendig and introduced my first chair, he began DIFFA and has since died of AIDS, 2) I have a family member that is HIV positive and 3) I believe it is simply a good choice.'' This Design Benefits: A percentage of the sale of the Albero Bench goes to the Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS, one of the country's largest supporters of direct care for people living with HIV/AIDS and preventive education for those at risk.
